Business grants
Sustainability grants: green and energy funding for UK businesses
Grants for greener businesses can help with projects such as cutting energy use, switching to low-carbon heating or installing electric vehicle charging. Support comes from national, devolved and local schemes, it changes often, and it rarely covers the whole cost. Here’s how to find it and plan the rest.
Wize Finance can help you explore green and energy grant opportunities and talk through other business finance your project may need. Grants are awarded by the bodies that run them, and you can also search the official finders yourself.
Share the amount and purpose of your green project, and the team can help you explore grant opportunities and other funding that may fit.
What kinds of green projects grants can support
Depending on the scheme and where you are, support may be available for:
-
Energy efficiency: insulation, lighting, controls and more efficient equipment
-
Low-carbon heating: for example, replacing fossil-fuel heating with a heat pump
-
Electric vehicle charging at your workplace
-
Renewable energy: generating your own power, where local schemes support it
-
Wider decarbonisation projects for some sectors
Not every project type is supported everywhere, and schemes open and close. Check what’s live before you plan.
Where to look for your green project
-
EV charging at work
GOV.UK’s chargepoint grants guidance.
Example, checked 18 Oct 2026: GOV.UK lists a Workplace Charging Scheme for businesses, charities and public sector organisations, available until 31 March 2027.
-
Heating
GOV.UK heating and energy pages.
Example: GOV.UK says the Boiler Upgrade Scheme can be used to replace a heating system “in your home or a building used for your business” in England and Wales.
-
Energy efficiency or renewables
GOV.UK finder and Find a grant, then your local Growth Hub or council (England) or the national business support service (Scotland, Wales, NI).
-
Sector or industrial decarbonisation

How green grants usually work
-
Often part of the cost: many cover a share, or a fixed amount per item installed, and you fund the rest.
-
Installer rules: some schemes require approved or certified installers and specific equipment.
-
Apply before you buy: some schemes won’t fund work that’s already started. Check first.
-
Location matters: schemes differ across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, and by local authority.
-
Limited funding and deadlines: budgets can run out, and schemes can close early.
Before you apply for a green grant
Funding the rest of a low-carbon project
Green grants rarely cover everything. For the remaining cost of equipment such as heat pumps, chargers or more efficient machinery, businesses often look at finance spread over the life of the equipment.

Sustainability grants FAQs
Are there grants for solar panels for businesses?
Some local or devolved schemes may support renewable energy, but availability varies by area and changes often. Search the GOV.UK finder and Find a grant, and check with your local Growth Hub or council.
Can I get a grant for EV chargers at work?
GOV.UK lists chargepoint grants for some businesses. Check the current scheme, its eligibility and whether it’s still open on GOV.UK before you order.
Do I have to use an approved installer?
Often, yes. Many schemes require certified installers or approved equipment. Check the scheme’s rules first.
Can I claim a grant after the work is done?
Often not. Some schemes need you to apply, or get approval, before work starts.
Is there a single green grant for all businesses?
No. Support is spread across national, devolved and local schemes, and it changes over time.
Can Wize Finance arrange a green grant?
Not directly. Wize Finance doesn’t award or run grants, make grant decisions or give energy advice: each scheme decides, and applications go to it directly. Wize Finance can help you explore green grant opportunities and discuss other business finance your project may need.
